Our History

In 1923, when the population of Chilliwack numbered about 3,000, Rev. V.L. Meyer began work here. Traveling from Vancouver, he brought the Word of God to a little group of Lutherans ... just four people to start. By the end of the year, the number had grown to 20 people and services were conducted in the member's homes. In 1930, Candidate A.H. Haake took over the work in the valley. In addition to Chilliwack, Rev. Haake served Lulu Island, New Westminister, Crescent, Cloverdale, South Sumas, Bradner and Hope. Living in New Westminster, he became the founder of Mt. Calvary Church in that city.

Family & Children

Jesus' Little Lambs

Families are important and we want to support all those faithful parents who are raising their children for the Lord during difficult times.

Our children's education program includes Sunday School during the school year. Children join us for the early part of the worship service and are then dismissed following the Children's Message. Children return to their families after the sermon, and in time to join their families during Holy Communion.

We also have several special family events during the year including our School's Out Carnival in June. See details below.

MOMS AND TOTS FELLOWSHIP

Note - June sessions cancelled. Group will meet again on July 2. All moms (grandmas, aunties, guardians) and their precious little ones are invited to a hobby farm operated by one of our member families. Calendar - Worship Services

Worship in person or online at 10:00 am Sundays The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at each Sunday worship service God gathers us together in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the name into which we were baptized. He gathers us to receive His gifts—Himself, His name, His flesh and blood Son, His Word of pardon and peace, His life, His grace and Spirit. In the Divine Service He distributes these gifts to us. Here we receive the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation Christ won for us on the cross. God calls and gathers us into His holy Christian church where we have communion with Him and all His saints in heaven and on earth. Heaven and earth intersect in the Divine Service. (Lutheran Church–Canada Committee on Worship and Music)

What does Lutheran worship look and sound like?
Lutherans use orders of service common throughout the history of the Western church. The two main parts of the Divine Service are (1) the proclamation of the Word of God, and (2) the ...

Blessed on Purpose - What We Are Doing

We respond to God's Blessings with acts of kindness to bless others

Seeking Ways to Bless our Neighbors

We want to praise God His many blessings by seeking out opportunities to bless others in His name. We partner with local relief agencies such as the Chilliwack Community Cupboard and Cyrus Center youth shelter and outreach program. We are currently collecting non-perishable food, good used clothes and even school supplies and toys for the Chilliwack Community Cupboard, a grassroots organization which supports needy families with children in the Chilliwack area. Children's Education and Feeding Program - Nicaragua

One of our ongoing international mission projects has been to support the child feeding and education program in Nicaragua, which is operated by Concordia Lutheran Mission Society, the mission auxiliary of Lutheran Church-Canada. Calendar - Education

Christian Education isn't only for children. God's family of all ages can benefit from regular instruction in the Word of God. Come and join with others in this journey of faith through the Bible. New participants are always welcome at any of our education programs and you need not be a member of our congregation.

CHILDREN'S EDUCATION

During the school year (September-June) children are dismissed just prior to the sermon for Children's Church with an age-appropriate Bible lesson while their parents listen to Pastor's message. The children return to their families in time for communion. We also have Busy Bags with quiet toys for the young children as well as a Parents' Room with one way glass if parents need a quiet place to take their little ones. During the summer months, children worship in church with their families, but we have an extended Children's Message along with crafts and story pages for the children to enjoy during the sermon time.

Blessed on Purpose - What You Can Do

There are many needs in the world. Even our small response, given in love, can make a difference!

You can bless your neighbors in Chilliwack

Through our partnership with other organizations in downtown Chilliwack you can make life a little easier for struggling individuals and families.

What we Believe

Our teachings can be summed up in the words of the Apostle's Creed

I BELIEVE IN GOD, THE FATHER ALMIGHTY , maker of heaven and earth.

AND IN JESUS CHRIST , His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT , the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN.

Volunteer Vacancies

Blessed to Serve

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We have only a small paid staff, relying instead on our many members who serve the Lord by serving our church and our community. From time to time we have vacancies in these important roles. For information about how you can bless others through our ministry please contact the church office at [email protected] or 604-792-9577.

Feeling Techy? ... We could use your tech skills in our media program. We are looking for someone to join the team of Media Shout presenters, operating the system that projects the worship service onto the screen in the sanctuary.

We also need at least one more person to operate our worship streaming system. This involves operating the cameras and the broadcast console during the worship service.

If you would like to learn more about these positions, please contact the church office.

Blessed on Purpose

We believe in God's deliberate plan for us

He sent His own Son to take upon himself the grim penalty of all our failings and shortcomings, including those we are not even aware of. We have received God's gracious gift and out of thankfulness we bless others, on purpose, as God has blessed us.
